요10:11-18

나는 선한 목자이다. 선한 목자는 양들을 위하여 자기 목숨을 버린다.

삯꾼은 목자가 아니요, 양들도 자기의 것이 아니므로, 이리가 오는 것을 보면, 양들을 버리고 달아난다. -그러면 이리가 양들을 물어가고, 양떼를 흩어 버린다. -

그는 삯꾼이어서, 양들을 생각하지 않기 때문이다.

나는 선한 목자이다. 나는 내 양들을 알고, 내 양들은 나를 안다.

그것은 마치, 아버지께서 나를 아시고, 내가 아버지를 아는 것과 같다. 나는 양들을 위하여 내 목숨을 버린다.

나에게는 이 우리에 속하지 않은 다른 양들이 있다. 나는 그 양들도 이끌어 와야 한다. 그들도 내 목소리를 들을 것이며, 한 목자 아래에서 한 무리 양떼가 될 것이다.

아버지께서 나를 사랑하신다. 그것은 내가 목숨을 다시 얻으려고 내 목숨을 기꺼이 버리기 때문이다.

아무도 내게서 내 목숨을 빼앗아 가지 못한다. 나는 스스로 원해서 내 목숨을 버린다. 나는 목숨을 버릴 권세도 있고, 다시 얻을 권세도 있다. 이것은 내가 아버지께로부터 받은 명령이다.“

11 ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. 18No one takes* it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.’
