Mid-week Messenger
Sunday, December 19th, 2010 Sermon Title: "Love - Transforming Our World " Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:43-48, Matthew 6:1
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven."

Events
ONGOING: Hanging of the Greens - The church is progressively decorating for the present holidays. Please contact Steve Borgard if you'd like to help.
ONGOING: Christmas Card Fund - Every year, instead of church members sending Christmas Cards to each other, we ask that they money used for purchasing the card and mailing be given as a special offering to the church. We use this money to go towards a special project within the church to help enhance our worship experience and/or update the "look" of the church. This year the funds are going to Audio/Video enhancements in the Sanctuary. Janet Morris will be collecting funds in the narthex/lobby at the end of both services on Sunday the 19th. If you have questions, contact the church. Last year's donations went to purchase the hard plastic round tables and they have already been a great use!
UNTIL DECEMBER 18th - Helping local families - We as a church are continuing our yearly tradition of working with the Burbank Coordinating Council to provide meals to local families for Christmas. In our narthex/lobby, there is a Christmas tree with ornaments that list different items to be purchased for this endeavor. Please grab one and bring items back by Friday the 17th. The food will be delivered on Saturday the 18th. With questions, please contact Dave Engel (818.823.8865) or see last week's messenger for all the details on the families.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18th - Flash Mob Caroling - If you haven't seen the flash mob videos that you don't have any free time and that's probably a good thing! Jennifer Payne (818.395.1825) is coordinating a Burbank Flash Mob. The flash-chorus (aka “Random Act of Cheer”) will take place at the Burbank farmers market on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. We will have a short meeting on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2:30p.m. in the upper fellowship hall at church in order to go over the plan, organize groups and distribute music cues. If not everyone can make it to the organizational meeting that is ok. On the day of the event we will meet between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. on the top floor of the parking garage that is adjacent to the farmer's market to get everyone set. Contact Jennifer for more details.
